Biom'Up : Advanced Biomaterials

How the founders met and created the team

Biom'Up originated from a meeting between two biochemical engineers from the Lyon INSA - Patricia Forest and Sylvain Picot - and one of their professors, Dr Christian Gagnieu. The three shared a vision and conviction about the tremendous potential of resorbable biopolymers and collagens in the medical field.

Based on research by Christian Gagnieu and Patricia Forest's PhD, they launched their project which was soon supported by Créalys, an "incubator" for start-ups, and other institutional partners. After additional education at the EM Lyon business school, Sylvain Picot became CEO of Biom'Up, whose first innovations already conveyed great aspirations: bringing the resources of biosynthetic and resorbable technologies to serve essential unmet clinical needs.

Since the hiring of pioneer employees at the start of the company, Biom'Up has steadily grown by recruiting motivated, experienced people with specialist skills, who today are part of a structured team of more than 25 people.

Founders

Sylvain Picot
Founder, Chairman and CEO

A Biochemical Engineer who graduated from the INSA Lyon, today Sylvain Picot is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Biom'Up S.A. Continuing his studies at the Lyon School of Management. and supported by his technical and entrepreneurial expertise, he is responsible for the company's management and strategy and supervises its operation.

Dr. Patricia Forest
Founder, Deputy CEO and Chief Scientific Officer

With a PhD in Biological and Medical Engineering from the Claude Bernard University - Lyon1 and a Biochemical Engineering graduate of the INSA Lyon, Patricia Forest researched her thesis under the guidance of Dr Christian Gagnieu. Today, she has responsibility for all Research & Development activities, Biom'Up's Technical Files and Regulatory Affairs.

Dr. Christian Gagnieu
Founder, Biom'Up Scientific Advisor

A Key Opinion Leader in the field of biopolymers for medical applications, Dr Christian Gagnieu is a researcher at the INSA Lyon Engineering School and Research Manager at the Lyon Pharmacy Faculty. Dr Gagnieu has collaborated with many companies in the medical field as an expert in biomaterials in general and in resorbable polymers in particular. Biom'Up was founded on the basis of the development of his research.

Commercial team

Philippe Francy
Sales & Marketing Manager-France

Philippe Francy joined Biom'Up in 2011 with 17 years experience in Implantable Medical Devices. A School of Commerce graduate, he has had national responsibilities as commercial manageer of one of the world's leading surgical implant companies. Philippe Francy is responsible for Biom'Up's commercial development in France.

Rob Sawyer
Export Manager

Rob Sawyer studied engineering in the UK and has almost 25 years experience in the surgical implants sector in both R&D and Marketing. His main areas of expertise are orthopaedics and general surgery. Rob recently worked in the field of porcine collagen-based biological implants and successfully grew an Export business through a network of distributors in Europe and the Far East. Rob's focus is the commercial developments of Biom' Up's products in Europe.

Thierry Garcia Ordonez
Dental Business Development-France and Export

Thierry Garcia Ordoñez has been associated with the Biom'Up project from its inception to assist the founders with commercial development. With a degree in Biology and a graduate of the School of Commerce, Thierry has worked both in the commercial department of a laboratory that specialised in the evaluation of medical devices, and with a leader in diagnostic products. Today Thierry is active in the field of innovative projects related to life sciences and focuses on the commercial development of Biom'Up's dental products.

Management

Pascal Perrin
Quality Manager

Pascal Perrin has been the Quality Manager at Biom'Up since its creation in 2005. A Biochemical Engineer at the INSA Lyon, he implemented and supervised the Quality Management System leading to ISO 9001 and 13485 approval in 2006. He is also responsible for the security and management of the infrastructure of the facility.

David Martin-Borie
Production Manager

A graduate Biochemical Engineer from the INSA Lyon, David Martin-Borie joined Biom'Up in 2010 as Production Manager. David brings 8 years experience of managing a production team, as well as project and technical management at one of the leaders in haemostasis diagnosis. Today David provides Biom'Up with his industrial and production expertise.

Vincent Guyot
Industrialisation Manager

A graduate from the INSA Lyon in Biochemical Engineering and a former student at the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, Vincent Guyot joined Biom'Up in February 2005 as R&D Engineer and later became Industrialisation Manager. After initial experience in a Lyon biotech business, Vincent is now responsible for the industrialisation of new processes within Biom'Up.

Jean-Antoine Rochette
Administrative and Financial Manager

As the Administrative and Financial Manager of Biom'Up since 2010, Jean-Antoine Rochette has a post graduate certificate in Economics with a specialisation in the area of growth and innovation. Following this he was then in charge of research at Saint Etienne University as well as the doctoral school. For 8 years now Jean-Antoine has worked in SMEs with responsibility for administrative and financial services.
